Make The Politician Work

Make The Politician Work takes seven of our well-known politicians to the coalface – in a positive and fascinating new 7 x half hour series commissioned for prime-time on TV1.
Whist politicians make decisions that affect our everyday lives, this series places them on the frontline so they can see for themselves just how their portfolio or policy operates at ground level.
The Minister of Social Development working in a soup kitchen, the former Minister of Labour picking Asparagus and the Associate Minister of Education working as a teachers aide. What do they see? How do they feel? Will their observations change the way they govern the country?
Make the Politician Work allows MP’s to show their human side. The goal of the series isn’t to ridicule the politicians – the goal is to show them at the real coalface where the impact of their decision-making is felt, and to present them as real people to the audience.
The challenges we set the politicians are not set out to test them in that profession – it’s not a job they do everyday. So, it is not a question of failure or success, but rather a case of what revelations the Minister might have when going through the experience, and getting across to the audience that our Minister is a real person.
The recipe is simple:
- - take a well known politician
- - take a close look at their portfolio and policy
- - send them to the coalface of their portfolio to work for a couple of days
The show is simply an Intrepid Journey into their heartland – their constituency – their portfolio. It’s not a dry, political series – but a light hearted attempt to find out who the person is behind the policy.
