GREAT SOUTHERN DOMINATES NZ TV AWARDS FOR ANOTHER YEAR
Great Southern Film and Television had another huge year at the Qantas Film and Television – cementing its place as New Zealand’s hottest award winning superindie.
In the past two years, Great Southern has attracted a record 32 nominations at the awards – winning 12.
At the 2010 Qantas Film and Television Awards, the company’s drama The Cult won six awards including best supporting actress for Lisa Chappell and best actress for Danielle Cormack. The company also picked up best cinematography, best music, best editing and best contribution to design for the 13-part psychological thriller. The series was produced by GSTV’s Rachel Gardner.
The multi genre company has had nominations and wins across almost all genres including best factual show in 2009 – Rescue One; Best Comedy, Eating Media Lunch; and has been nominated in the best entertainment show for the Apprentice and Who wants to be a Millionaire – and the best Film categories for Show of Hands and Apron Strings.
Managing Director Philip Smith said the success was “pretty much about everyone’s passion, talent and commitment – and the willingness of others to allow us to make projects for them, for which we’re eternally grateful!”
The company continues to expand and is currently building Auckland’s first virtual television studio – in time for the Rugby World Cup.
